Objectives of GAMSC-2008

This is a reserach-oriented advanced summer school on Hurwitz stacks, groups actions on stacks, algebraic fundamental groups of schemes and stacks, Galois action on the Teichmuller tower, Profinite Teichmuller theory, rational points on Hurwitz spaces, and Modular Towers.

A solid knowledge of basic algebraic geometry and topological fundamental groups is necessary for participation. A knowledge of moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces, mapping class groups, profinite groups will be helpful, but not necessary. On the other hand, lecturers will be asked to make an effort to make their expositions clear and understandable, and indicate research directions.
